Even as a child I saw carousel horses differently than other children. For me they were overpowering compact creatures of immense energy and strength, daunting to behold and more so to mount. The Clang! Clang! Clang! of the bell signaling the start of the ride I heard as a clear call to flee.
Rage is how I describe this particular beautifully carved carousel horse, pinioned in place by an impressive spiraled brass pole offering support to the mounted rider as they go round and round but only the rider can step off.
